Tayyabs

Many consider this place to be the best curry house in London. Winner of several awards, Tayyabs (or New Tayyabs as it likes to call itself) is based on an unprepossessing street in Whitechapel but is well worth seeking out. Be prepared for the fact that many chose to seek it out though - queues are long, although fast-moving. And remember these crucial words - "I'll have the mixed meat grill to start, please". Started by Mohammad Tayyab over 30 years ago, this family run restaurant in historic Whitechapel has grown in size and reputation over the years. Originally a daytime café for locals and those in the known, the restaurant finally opened an evening restaurant in an adjoining Victorian pub. Recently refurbished the restaurant is decorated in vibrant colours and subtle lighting, balancing the fiery menu and bustling atmosphere. Whether it's a new V.I.P room, designed for large parties and decorated in vivid gold leaf, or an intimate table for two in one of the large dining rooms. Tayyabs is a dining experience not to be missed.
