Furniture Museum

This museum, located in the old town estate of the eighteenth-century courtier Nikolay Arshenevsky, depicts a 19th century Russian estate and its interiors through its collection of restored furniture from the 17th to the 20th century. The collection demonstrates the mastery of Russian woodworkers through different items of domestic furniture, from stools to cabinets, including a birchwood chair with a back carved into the Romanov double-eagle. Also present are examples of European furniture from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries which began to gain popularity amongst the Russian gentry, and were a great influence on native furniture-making. Donít miss the gorgeous inlaid wood-panelling on some of the cabinets in the left wing of the house, made by the Smirvald restoration company.
