Spritzenhaus

WHAT distinguishes Spritzenhaus in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, from the dozens of other beer gardens in the city? For starters, the owners call it a beer hall. Instead of an outdoor garden with some foliage poking through, you get a giant indoor shell with industrial metal stools, exposed brick and subway tiles. Furthermore, the chef, Rolf Weithofer, formerly of Prime Meats, serves semiformal fare like cider-glazed pork bellies and salads sourced from the nearby Eagle Street Rooftop Farm. Still, the hall with communal tables shipped directly from Hamburg, Germany, and a long list of multisyllabic German beers is a biergarten at heart.
