Cidade das Artes

The City of Arts opened a new era in the cultural life of Rio de Janeiro. The sculptural building erected to ten feet off the ground, in the heart of Barra da Tijuca, houses one of the most important and complete representation spaces for the arts. Here, music, singing, theater, film, dance, visual arts, and other Brazilian and artistic events all people have received excellence that transformed the place into a great center of culture appreciation, with fertile ground for the formation of audience.

The idea of converting the City of Arts original design came from a conversation between Mayor Eduardo Paes and the president of the City Municipal Arts Foundation and former Culture Secretary, Emilio Kalil. Partially opened at the end of the previous administration, the complex of halls gained new life with the decision to expand and modernize their field to cater to all the artistic and social classes in the city, and not just the area of music.
