The history of Teatro Sérgio Cardoso begins in 1954, when the actor and his wife, actress Nydia Licia, walked on foot through the São Paulo neighborhood of the bladder at dawn, returning the recordings of the film "The Fire", and discover the Street Councillor Ramalho former Cine Teatro Esperia. Glimpsed in old abandoned house, hidden behind a fence and about to be transformed into a market or a garage, the opportunity to realize a dream and have their own theater.
Contacted the property owners and formalized the space rental for ten years, with an option for five more. The next step was to search for partners for the venture to reform the building with the aim of turning it into the most modern and comfortable theater in the city of São Paulo. To this end, invited engineers Otto Meinberg and Ricardo Capote Valente, who accepted the challenge.
Thus was founded the Company Bela Vista, which would be responsible for the administration and reform of the theater. Then began a comprehensive campaign to raise funds and partners to complete the work. In parallel, founded a company with young and idealistic actors. That was how, at age 31, Sergio created at the same time, a theater and a company.
