Salvador Dali Museum

Housing the largest collection outside Europe of the artist work.
The new Salvador Dali Museum, located in St. Petersburg Florida reopened on January 11, 2011 and is double the size of the original built in 1982. The massive museum placed along Tampa Bay is made from foot thick concrete and glass, stands at 75 feet, and encloses 2140 of Daliís masterworks, the biggest collection anywhere. The 68,000 square foot building has been redesigned to more accurately represent Daliís spirit with a unique geodesic glass dome that allows natural light in to enhance the viewing of his paintings. HOK Florida who designed the building also thought about storms that come to the area and made the new location withstand up to a Category 3 hurricanes to preserve Daliís heritage in case of severe storms. All the stops have been pulled out for the museum, so if you are a fan of Dali and surrealist paintings, you have to stop in and view genius on canvas and in architecture.
